MeenMoves presents My Quadrennia
Jersey (New) Moves
NJPAC Victoria Theater
Friday, June 10th at 7:00PM
Info and Tickets Here
With the COVID-19 pandemic raging, the uprisings for racial justice reverberating, and the nation more politically divided than ever, the events from the week preceding election day 2020 through inauguration day in 2021 had a profound effect upon all Americans. Throughout this period, Recanati-Kaplan Scholarship students at the 92NY Harkness Dance Center and company members from dance company MeenMoves recorded their reactions to these intensely charged historic events. These interviews were the source material for an intergenerational dance film, Bilateral Quadrennium, that highlights the excitement, anxiety, mourning, shock and hope this diverse set of people experienced during one of the most divisive times in recent memory.
My Quadrennia brings this dance film to the stage as a dance-theater work, intensified by a telling of one family’s historical and current relationship with voting in the United States. It is a timely reminder of both the importance and fragility of the most fundamental of democratic institutions.
Join us for a cathartic evening of wine and dance at @littleislandnyc / The Glade on Monday, September 20th at 6pm. We know you’ve got complaints, New Yorkers, so let’s hash them out together while the @meenmoves company and a @savorytalks sommelier pair our grudge with a short dance and a taste of wine.
Beverages are purchasable from vendors on site and each dance is inspired by a contemporary problem – from gun violence to loneliness to the #metoo movement – and set to a song on @nicomuhly and Teitur’s album Confessions
Choreography by Sameena Mitta
Performers: Paige Barnett, Réka Echerer, Chelsea Hecht, Jasminn Johnson, Courtney Lopes, Raechelle Manalo, Stephanie Terasaki
Costumes by Sarah Timberlake
